E-Verify is a joint effort between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) to provide participating employers a means to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all persons hired to work in the United States, regardless of citizenship. Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, as a recipient of federal funding, participates in E-Verify.
As a federal contractor, our participation in E-Verify requires confirmation of employment eligibility by providing the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information obtained from the employee’s Form I-9. E-Verify is not used to pre-screen job applicants. Verification is conducted by Engineering Human Resources working with the employee and division HR staff.
E-Verify requires verification upon employment. An employee who severs employment for a period of time and then returns to employment will be verified each time they are re-employed.
