About Project MFG

Project MFG shines a light on the need and opportunities for skilled trades by focusing on the development of new talent to provide a path forward for individuals and our country. Project MFG competitions throughout the United States promote the trades across industries and help advance the next generation of highly skilled trade professionals. As an integrated workforce development and recruitment effort, Project MFG collaborates across communities, the private sector and government to expand the U.S. industrial base workforce.
Support for Project MFG is funded by the Department of Defense’s Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program as part of the National Imperative for Industrial Skills (NIIS) initiative.

Clash of Trades

Clash of Trades is a nationwide integrated manufacturing competition hosted by Project MFG, a movement dedicated to promoting, elevating and accelerating the skilled trades workforce. Its primary goal is to inspire future generations about the diverse career opportunities available within America's skilled trades industry. In March 2024, the TEES Facility for Advanced Manufacturing on the Texas A&M-RELLIS campus, hosted six schools from across the United States for the first of three regional advanced manufacturing competitions. Over the three-day competition, teams demonstrated their skills in CNC programming and machining, mill and lathe operations, 3- and 5-axis milling, TIG welding, metrology and precision assembly. After completing the three regional competitions, the top four teams attended the national "Clash of Trades" competition on Thursday, May 23, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
