New graduate assistants employed with Texas A&M Engineering (made up of the Texas A&M University College of Engineering and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station) will need to fulfill responsibilities as outlined below.

Employment

  • Once you have accepted an offer, the onboarding process will be initiated and you will receive, as applicable, emails from multiple sources, such as Workday/SSO Automation/Perfect Compliance (Guardian)/support@online-tax.net (Glacier/foreign national)/a Human Resources contact with instructions pertaining to various onboarding steps.
  • During the onboarding process in Workday, you will complete all tasks assigned in a timely manner and will reach out to our central HR team with any questions or concerns. Our preference is for you to complete all tasks within three days of an assignment.
  • Employees of the Texas A&M University System are required to complete mandated trainings in a timely manner as part of their employment. Upon initial employment you will be assigned these courses on your date of hire and will have 30 days to complete. Note that additional training requirements may be assigned throughout your employment. Failure to complete these assigned courses may impact your continued employment. It is your responsibility to complete these training by the due date assigned.

Work Hours

  • As a 50% effort employee, you are expected to work 20 hours per week while employed.

Working Additional Hours

  • When allowable, a graduate assistant can work up to 29 hours per week maximum. This maximum is allowable as long as approval from Texas A&M's Office of Graduate and Professional Studies has been received. A foreign national graduate assistant can only work additional hours during “vacation” periods.
  • You will need to contact your departmental business office to initiate the approval process to work additional hours. You must have approval prior to working any additional hours.

Upon Termination

  • You will need to ensure that you have returned all university property to the appropriate personnel.
  • Once you have been terminated, you will need to ensure you have updated your contact information in Workday.
