Purpose: Honors oustanding individual research performance and excellence in research programs within a sustained timeframe. Evaluates long-term productivity and performance based on contracts, publications, teaching, service and mentoring, usually over the last five years.

Metrics required to complete nominations: Funding Summary and number of active awards, publication summary (journal and book publication), mentoring summary (number of doctoral or masters students), professional membership or leadership or leadership roles, recognition honors during the evaluation period; 60 months for Faculty Fellow/Senior Faculty Fellow or 36 months for Young Faculty Fellow nominees.

Deadline: May 5, 2026

Categories

The TEES Fellows program recognizes outstanding individual research performance via two categories:

  • TEES Faculty Fellow/TEES Senior Faculty Fellow (Associate or Full Professor)
  • TEES Young Faculty Fellow (typically Assistant Professor)

TEES Senior Faculty Fellow designation is earned upon a nominee's third total selection (years need not be consecutive). Senior status is permanent and carries no additional funds beyond the annual Fellow award. Senior nominees require a complete nomination packet each cycle.

Nomination Authority and Limits

  • Only Engineering Department Heads, TEES Center Directors or TEES Institute Directors may submit nominations.
  • Each unit (department, center or institute) may submit one nomination per category (Faculy Fellow/Senior; Young Faculty Fellow).
  • Units with >30 eligible personnel (tenured/tenure-track + TEES research engineers as of the first class day of the fall semester) may submit up to two nominations per category.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must have an active, funded TEES research program.
  • Department heads are not eligible.
  • Endowed chair or professorship holders are not eligible. If an endowed appointment was vacated within 12 months, the nominee remains ineligible for the current cycle.
  • Candidates in either category must be nominated each year and compete without regard to previous appointments.
  • For teaching awards, the service need not be continuous so long as the nominee was budgeted at least part-time to teach for a total of five years.
  • For the instructional faculty teaching awards, the service need not be continuous so long as the nominee was budgeted at least part-time to teach for a total of five years.

Evaluation Window & Considerations

Because the program recognizes outstanding performance, selection emphasizes contributions under Texas A&M University and/or TEES appointment:

  • Faculty Fellow/Senior: last 60 months (5 years by January 1, 2026)
  • Young Faculty Fellow: last 36 months (3 years by January 1, 2026)

Considerations include:

  • Evidence of an ongoing, productive research program through TEES.
  • Research contracts - types and amounts, including proposal activity.
  • Publications, monographs and textbooks.
  • Professional society memberships and service activities.
  • Support of other faculty or staff in research contracts.
  • Graduate and extension teaching and graduate student training/mentoring.
  • Patents, invention disclosures and copyrights.
  • Recognition, honors and awards.

Financial

Awardees may receive up to $10,000. Funds may be (a) established in a TEES account for research-related use per TEES fiscal policies, or (b) taken as a one-time salary supplement (subject to withholding and payroll deductions).

Senior designation carries no additional monetary award beyond the annual Fellow award.
