NSSPI organizes nuclear security best practices meeting with IIT-Bombay

On Feb. 26-28, the Center for Nuclear Security Science and Policy Initiatives (NSSPI) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-Bombay) organized a discussion meeting on nuclear security best practices sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency with technical support from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). 

The event was hosted by Dr. Suneet Singh at IIT-Bombay with organizational support from Dr. Sunil Chirayath, NSSPI director and associate professor of nuclear engineering at Texas A&M University.

The workshop brought together subject matter experts from both the U.S. and India to discuss the challenges and best practices for nuclear security in their respective countries. These experts were pulled from NSSPI, ORNL, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the South Texas Project nuclear power plant, various Indian universities and technical institutes, the Indian nuclear industry, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), the Indian navy and the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). 

The meeting was attended by students and academics from various Indian universities, as well as representatives from the Indian nuclear industry, AERB, DAE and the Observer Research Foundation.
